The
birth of this mission took place 9 months later when this couple decided
to visit Rural Zimbabwe to see for themselves what the needs really were
and possibly what they could do about it.
From that experience, they made the decision to return to the
United States and attempt to raise money to fund some of the projects
that they saw as most urgent.
This
couple came out of retirement and embarked on a whole new career of fund
raising for assisting other human beings in the world and most
specifically for Zimbabwe. They
have expended much energy in collecting, gathering and shipping
discarded clothing, school furniture, books and school supplies,
hospital equipment and bedding from the United States to the needy in
the rural areas of Zimbabwe. Since the beginning, Ralph and Roberta Pippitt have made one trip a year to Zimbabwe at their own expense. These trips are for the sole purpose of overseeing the building projects and to be certain the money is used as it was intended. As an outgrowth of one of these trips, a sewing co-op was started and a group of 20 women were taught to sew. It has since become a thriving business providing a service to the community and additional income for the women’s families.
The
Heather
Orphan Care Center has been established, at the urging of this
couple. It was formed to
encourage the local community to do something about the care of the more
than 1,895 orphans identified in this area.
Many children live alone because both parents have died of AIDS. Since the beginning of the mission, work has been funded through gifts donated by friends of this couple. However, the mission has outgrown the resources and so Renewed Hope Charitable Foundation, Inc. was started in 2000. This opens a whole new set of doors for expanding this mission. |
