| Journal 2 Hello Everyone, July 14 I left the US about 3 weeks ago. I have seen so many interesting things that I can’t tell them all. We finally got the first aid supplies cleared. Tomorrow we are driving to Bulawayo. In Harare there are kids standing on the lines of the street in between cars begging for food and money. July 15 Today I went to an installation of a pastor. I really enjoyed seeing it the African way. It was 3:00 wen we finally left to go to Bulawayo. When we finally arrived in Bulawayo it was 8:15 and we were all tired of traveling so we slept at a B&B but they didn’t serve Breakfast. July 16 Today we went to church and Grandma gave a speech to the community about their travels in Zimbabwe. After that in was 11:30 when we left to go to Victoria Falls. We arrived around 5:15 to find that the place we were staying at in Victoria Falls was so beautiful. Tonight we went to a place in the falls called “the Boma” I ate so many different things like Mopani worm, Warthog, Kudu, Bream, Crocodile, Ostrich. The Mopani worm was so gross and crunchy. I liked the warthog. July 17 Today we are at the beautiful Victoria Falls. I got so wet that I was soaking inside and out. I wanted to go Bungee jumping off of a bridge into the Zambezi River it was about a 375ft drop, but it cost way too much and I would have had to go to Zambia side to do it. Later that evening we went out on a dinner cruise. We saw hippos, elephants, and crocodiles. We got back to the B&B and had Pizza. I will never eat Pizza in Zimbabwe again. July 18 We left the falls early. As we drove to Bulawayo we stopped at a few shops and when we were looking at the pieces the people wanted to trade for food or clothes not money. July 19 We left Bulawayo around 12:00pm. We stopped to look at boarding school that is not in good shape. I wasn’t feeling too hot that day so I spent most of the time in the car. At this boarding school they had males on one side and females on the other side. July 20 Today on our way to Nyamashato we had extra food that we took from a restaurant the day before, I handed it out the window to one of the begging kids. He has so happy to get it. Between Nyamashato and Harare there is a police roadblock and the guy that was not in uniform wanted to search my stuff and he was telling Grandpa that I had to stay there until they fixed my visa for being in Zimbabwe. The guy said I was in the country illegally. I was so scared but grandpa kept on him and didn’t give in and so they finally said “GET OUT OF HERE!!” July 21 Today we are back in Harare we have to run more errands. Tomorrow we will go back out to the school. While grandpa is in doing business grandma and I have to sit in the car and be “Car Guard” July 22 We are back at school and staying for awhile. Yesterday we went to lunch at a place called Mama Mia’s, our left over food we gave to a crippled man that was begging. July 23 Today I played Volleyball with the teacher’s kids that were bored out of their minds. We played several games of volleyball, they play volleyball almost the same way that we do. I am getting practice before the Fire Fighter BBQ in Aug. July 24 Today there was a community gathering at the school. There was kid from all grade levels dancing and reciting poems. I enjoyed watching there traditional dance. July 25 Today I went to class rooms and taught a game called “Around the World” with multiplication flashcards. The 7th grade class needs a lot of help on there facts, they are still counting it on there fingers. July 26 Today I played “Around the World” with 3rd grade. They know there facts better than 7th grade. Each afternoon when the kids are dismissed from school a group of about 12 of us get together and play basketball or volleyball. We all really enjoy playing. July 27 This morning I taught Preschool how to play leapfrog. They slowly get the idea but they seem to enjoy it. July 28 We played leapfrog again today. I am going to classes and playing “Around the World” July 29 Today I was very busy. I started out cleaning out a closet in the preschool classroom. I took the block and tunnels and divided them into the correct boxes. I took several boxes of toys and if the pieces were missing or broken I through it out. By 10 o’clock I was back on the volleyball court playing until dusk. July 30 As of today I have a total of 51.5 hours of community service. I have been on the go the whole time and some nights I will sleep 12 hours. Today I taught the community kids how to put puzzles together. I also helped grandpa put a swing-set together. July 31 I was in classrooms again today playing games with 3rd, 5th, 6th, and 7th grades. I also took a class of 4th graders and helped them make pin wheels. Here in the windy season they get a lot of dust devils. They had those pin wheels a blowing. August 1 Today we went to Guzsha and Indynagoi two other primary schools that have been part of this project. They both had community gatherings that we had to attend. I got pictures but it was just like the gathering they had at Nyamashato. I drove grandpa’s backwards stick shift truck on the wrong side of the road. That was a really fun experience. August 2 Today I ate lunch with the orphans. They had sodsa and beans for lunch. I thought that the lunch was ok but not great. I had a stomach ache after lunch. August 3 Today was the last day for school for the kids until September. They are on for 3 months and off for 1 and they start in January. They had a big ceremony for that. I got sunburned today playing volleyball. August 4 We went to Harare today for laundry and won’t be back at school until Monday. I can’t wait until I come home to tell you all my experiences.
